I will never forget the feeling when I finished my masters degree. Complete freedom. No more tests. No more papers, presentations, office hours. And did that mean I stopped learning? Absolutely not and quite the contrary. It meant I was free to run wild with whatever pursuits that grasped my interest, and there are many.We do the same thing for our children when we give them time and set them free. What an invaluable gift.It is hard to combat the culture of scheduled and busy. I try and remember how I feel when I have time and space to explore something fascinating and it’s the perfect reminder to let my kids experience open-ended possibilities as well.If you are just starting out with nature immersion, I highly recommend short, kid-friendly hikes because they offer endless things interest. On Thursdays, a group of mamas our highlighting their nature hikes and we’d love for you to join us with #naturewalkthursday !You can check out some of my favorite nature mama accounts and walk with them today too:@loveathomeed@1000hoursoutside@alearningwego@mountainpaz@savor_every_season@raising_little_naturalists@theknotholetree@ourlifeintheshire#1000hoursoutside#runwildmychild#liveauthentic#childhoodunplugged#kidsoftheoutdoors#beyondthewanderlust#inbeautyandchaos#bornwildchild#adventurekids#lifeofadventure#momswithcameras#littleexplorer#adventureawaits#theoutbound#keepexploring#kidsforreal#ourcandidlife#children_outside#naturekid#cmglimpse#wildschooling#optoutside#lifewellcaptured#plantwildroots#outdoorexplore#wildchild#childhoodeveryday

3rd day back at work in real life and I’m straight up not having a good time. It’s days like today where I wish I was still out on trail. Seeing views like this will never get old. But I gotta make the most of it. 🏔#pct2019#pct#pacificcresttrail#pacificcresttrail2019#trekthepct#thruhike#optoutside#itsinmynature#pctig#mountains#backpacking#mexicotocanada#hikertrash#adventure#adventureculture#withguthook#nomad#nomadlife#zpacks#ospreypacks#altrarunning#darntough#wichitaeagle#wichita

During my Utah trip I spent time in three of the state’s National Parks.- My time in Canyonlands was the shortest of the three and I wish I had allowed more time there.- One of my biggest struggles when I travel is that I want to see and do all the things! But I’m learning that it might be better to slow down and take the time to really get to know a place.- Quality over quantity, and all that.- I passed this scene on my way out of the park and had to stop. It was morning and the Sun was bathing the canyons in soft warm light, creating this beautiful layered effect.- It’s one of those scenes that doesn’t last very long, but feels completely mystical while it does.- #Nikon D7200#WithMyTamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6

Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes....including you 💡Get outside. Be outside. Be in nature as much as possible. A Harvard medical school study(not that we needed a study to tell us this) proved many benefits of being outside, and also exercising outside. Benefits from the study include Vitamin D increase, happier due to sunlight elevating mood, improved concentration, memory, faster healing from injury and reducing inflammation, reducing the risk of diabetes type 2, cardiovascular disease, stress, and high blood pressure, and depression. Also it lowers salvatory cortisol, improves immune system, and improves vision. With the sun becoming less prevalent in most areas, make it a priority to get outside in the sun when it’s out, and in nature. Take your shoes off, walk barefoot in the grass. Connect with your environment.

Big Betty’s bunk beds are getting a little more privacy and storage on the bottom. We are also gearing up for our big 7 night Christmas trip to @stevenspass Ski Resort for our daughter’s ski race camp. Of course I’m decorating for both Christmas and NYE...DUH!!!
